Dover!

Thursday 8 June 2018

I’ve never know an east wind last so long! But we couldn’t wait any longer so left eastbourne at midday. The tide was with us but the wind was right on the nose all the way so we had to motor into wind against tide .. a short and uncomfortably lumpy sea, so there was lots of spray and uncomfortable pitching and slamming. Too rough to make a drink, So nine and a half hours later we arrived exhausted in Dover with the fuel right on empty.

Great yellow slick just off dungeness but completely harmless I’m sure 🤣 perhaps the sea is meant to be that colour! I’m sure I remember seeing the same thing last time we passed Dungeness.

Friday.

We’ve just met Jan and Saul aboard a Dutch yacht ‘Bestevaer’. Named after the successful attack of Chatham by the Dutch. An event that is strangely little known in England 🤣 They gave us sweet coffee, lots of advice and a couple of marina guides. Very helpful. And friendly. All set for Holland now!

But first .. Dover castle 😎
