Nieuwpoort

Home of topiary by the looks of the entrance.

There was a bit of indecision this morning over the 20kn predicted winds – but are we men or mice?

Men when we set off (not including Lynn) but mice when it turned out to be really quite rough and the wind was 27kn. On the nose again of course! However 2.5kn of favourable tide… at last πŸ‘

I took a video of the rough seas but on playback it always looks so calm and benign. Don’t know why that is but I’ll wait until I have one that shows the true terror before I post it🀣

The met office say it’s ‘unseasonably windy’ at the moment 🀑

So it was a rather uncomfortable passage but we were greeted all along the entrance channel by a multi gun salute! I was concerned that it was something to do with Brexit or because we still had the French courtesy flag up and it had been too rough to change it for the Belgian one. I changed it as soon as it calmed enough in the approach channel but then discovered there was a military firing range just beyond the sand dunes. Very loud though!

So an afternoon in niewpoort awaits. This is where Lobster was first registered, but my first visit. I expected it to be smaller than it appears to be!

The wind is due to change soon so I’m expecting future posts to be of blue skies and seas and nice gentle waves. It does happen sometimes!

By the way, in case I haven’t mentioned it to everyone, you can follow us in real time at marine traffic.com – just search on Lobster 3

One for Les if he’s following 😎

  1. Great going David. Admiral spirit😊. Looking forward to the future video. You seem to be able to pick the best wind advantage πŸ€”πŸ˜‚. Hopefully that will all change and your time be more a pleasant experience as opposed to a challenge πŸ˜ŠπŸ˜ŠπŸ‘
