I think I can be pretty confident that the Son of God never actually rode a bike, but if he had it would have been a Solex!
As you can imagine I was up at the crack of 10 o’clock this morning and headed straight round to see Els de Jonge, the very enthusiastic owner of the Solex Museum.

What s great place!
More Solexes than you can shake a spanner at, manufactured in France, Holland and more recently China.
The first one she showed us was a ‘racing’ model with a chequered flag design which she said could reach 70kph!!! When you convert that to mph it’s a bit more believable.

There was so much to see I’ll just show you the pictures…

I’m not quite sure what this one’s trying to tell us..

There is a well attended race down the high street with Solexes competing from far flung places on the 14 June but we’ll be home by then.
If you’re free, email Els for full details Beckers@zeelandnet.nl

Spare engine in a box!

Sensing my regret at having sold my old French example Els gave me a special piston key ring

But enough of that…we had bridges to cross, well, sail under.
Yet again I checked my tidal heights and after a visit to the office to pay, we were off.
Asking the harbour master why this was in his office didn’t get a meaningful response, but I think Eastbourne should get one too!

So the bridge…..

Funny how it looked lower the closer we got. It’s usually the opposite!

I’m sure you were holding your breath as we were and I’m well aware of how delicious schadenfreude can be … but we made it… though there didn’t look much room to me!
And so we arrived at Wemeldinge, another place people said wasn’t worth visiting.
It is! It’s very nice and when we came across a rotating windmill the Windmill Meister (!) invited us in for a look.
All very impressive and quite noisy in a soft wooden way. It must have been the height of technology in its day… just like the Solex some might say👍

Like the other places in Holland we’ve visited everywhere is well kept

And the shops are just blended in with the houses.
That’s fine except no one has curtains here and they put unusual things in their windows. So you can be staring at something interesting in what you think is a shop window when suddenly your eyes refocus onto a family having dinner 6 feet away from you!
We finished off with a long walk round the coast, just 15000 steps, but it meant there was no time for scrabble😱 (I lost last night by just TWO points after leading for the whole game !!!!!)
Not sure where tomorrow. We’ll just have to decide in the morning.
