Oostende. Much the same!

Weather bound so today was the tram to Oostende.

This coast seems like one long beach with one town merging into another and many people huddling together in flats

You would certainly hope the residents on the ground floor are careful with their chip pan, especially as they’re famous for double frying their chips here. Must increase the risk surely!

It seems they huddle together to pee too. This is a three person facility but I only saw men using it despite hanging around hoping for a woman to get caught short!

Turns out that for €0.50 you can go to a nearby building and briefly rent a private cubicle for the same purpose… and they wonder why young people can’t afford mortgages!!!

There are a lot of bicycles here.

Also a lot of signs warning of seagull attack

Unfortunately we didn’t see any of these before encountering Jonathan, below, who most impressively intercepted Lynn’s sandwich on its journey between her hand and mouth.

After that, a tour round one of the last Icelandic fishing trawlers, including an old B&W film which made my whinging about rough seas seem rather pathetic. Though of course men were men in those days (not a Gill or a Henri Lloyd wicking layer in sight – just a big woolly jumper) and at least they were getting paid rather than having to shell out for the privilege.

I must remember my selfie stick so I don’t get this distorted ‘stretch, frame, click’ face!

Naturally we visited the externally ornate church. Quite plain inside though but with surprisingly modern styled stained glass.

So tomorrow we sail East.

No excuses 😱

  1. David, I don’t want to upset you but that’s not a “distorted ‘stretch, frame, click’ face”…that’s just what you look like 😉
