We woke to the sound of rain and looking out the first thing I saw was a tour boat full of people all holding umbrellas. A great picture that I just missed. Here’s the tour boat later when the rain had stopped. Everyone has to duck to get under the bridges

The harbourmaster said it was Sunday so everything was closed but it looked pretty busy to me.
In the central square were three volley ball courts surrounded by restaurants. Lots of cheering etc and we watched and had lunch.

Dutch people are quite large it seems. Not fat, just overall bigger than average and on blind-ordering a ‘typical Dutch lunch’ it arrived as three fried eggs on thick bread with slices of ham and cheese. V nice but rather a lot of it!

Perhaps that’s why they play volley ball.
There were two separate music events – both modern jazz, very good -and it seemed everyone was out and about.
In France everyone greets you with a Bonjour. In Belgium and Holland the tendency is to ignore you in the street. They’re friendly enough once you do start talking but it’s a marked difference.
There are two large towers which were closed. Shame as we like climbing towers 👍

There are interesting shops, houseboats and parks and overall it’s a very nice place. General pics below.

A couple of odd things.
There are rubbish bins in the street but you need a code to put rubbish in them!
And people sit eating outside their own houses so you’re not sure if it’s a restaurant! And when they do go indoors there are no curtains so as you walk past it’s as if you’re in the room with them🤣
Tomorrow… the Veerse Meer !
Looks very interesting. Shame about the towers. The Dutch are officially the tallest nation hence the public men’s urinals are higher than anywhere else 😏

I didn’t know that. I suppose they have to be able to see over the dykes.
