€18 a Kilo !?!?

Colijnsplaat… home of… ???

Well it’s the home of Johannis de Rijke who was the creator of a great many Dykes both here and in Japan, so the pop up exhibition said 🀑 and not everyone can say that!

But more importantly it’s the home of … The Solex Museum!!!!!

I used to own a Velo Solex and what a mighty machine it was.

Well.. not exactly mighty but it had character.

Mine is now long gone unfortunately and the museum is only open on Saturdays, but it’s on the list for tomorrow morning before we leave. So more to look forward to in tomorrow’s blog !!!

Here’s just a taster photographed through the window

Amazing eh!!!!

Bet you can’t wait!!!

It’s just in a row of houses so you’d never find it unless you were extremely lucky or had insider info.

Then we bumped into a man with a pristine Morris Minor from 1957. It was in fantastic condition, had a factory fitted sun roof and was actually manufactured in Holland. He was very keen to tell in all about it despite not speaking a word of English 🀣

But even better… he owned FIVE Solexes!

Doesn’t seem fair does it. What happened to – from each according to his ability, to each according to his need. Who needs five when some people don’t have any 😏

Five Solexes!!!

Moving on… after that it was a long long walk along the dyke (23400 steps!) All very nice but the wind here today is 25kn so it was a lot easier going one way than the other.

And there were more sheep – some rams too

Just as exciting for Lynn as the Solex was for me, we saw the local supermarket was selling samphire at €18 a kilo and we also saw that it was growing abundantly all round the edge of the marina.

So guess what we ate tonight

It tasted even better knowing the price.

There are oysters all over the place too, but I’m not too sure what’s involved in getting them from the shoreline to my gullet. It makes you a bit reluctant to pay loads in a restaurant when they’re literally lying around! But they don’t look quite the same as the UK version. Are there different sorts? Are some deadly poison? Is it like the Japanese Blow Fish with a part that must be removed? Is it worth being ill to save a few quid? Some research is clearly needed.

So not a very exciting day blog-wise, but tomorrow it’s Wemeldinge which I’m told should be pronounced in a very different way to the way I’ve been saying it.

And of course….

If you are around for the next committee meeting I vote we extend it! Your holiday memoirs are going to be far more interesting 😎 – no offence fellow committee members πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚

  2. Oysters are ok to eat so long as their environment was not contaminated. Nothing to remove just the shell πŸ˜ŠπŸ˜ŠπŸ‘
Bikes will be great πŸ‘. Can’t wait for more photos.
