A Lock of One’s Own

A huge lock just for us, as Virginia might have said when she exited Vlissingen!

Though I wonder if she had to wait as long for the gates as we did?

That’s an enormous amount of water to move just to drop a 27 foot boat by 4 feet!

But why are we at Vlissingen?

What happened to revisiting Deer Island?

What about the really very interesting looking street market at Veere, with the rope making demo, the endless bells and all those souvenirs waiting to be bought?

Well, we started off ok with a short walk round the town wall and having a go on this pull-yourself-across ferry…

But then I got a call saying my Mum was being taken by ambulance to A&E!!

This blog was nearly called ‘Mother’s! Who’d ‘ave ’em?

It turns out she’s ok but with a bit of an infection.

The hospital said there’s really no need to rush back but obviously we’re heading home asap.

So today we came down he canal to Breskens and tomorrow looks like a 6.30 start to, with any luck, Nieuwpoort.

After that I’m not sure which route we’ll take as that damned East wind looks like it’s turning West!!!!

I’ve had several offers of help today which is very kind and much appreciated, but there is nothing that needs doing at the moment!

Except for some East Wind!

More Viennese Whirls perhaps??

  1. A huge lock 😧. Sorry to hear about Mum, hope she is well again soon. We will miss your blogs 😢😢. Have a good trip back and take care. Not sure if there is anything we can do for you but we are about over the coming days if there is anything.

  2. Good morning you two
Well all we can say is your blog and photographs have been so entertaining, but of course it’s understandable that you are cutting your adventures short. We hope your dear Mum is ok after her visit to A and E. Have a safe trip back, we hope the weather is kind to you. See you back in sunny Sovereign Harbour 😎
