For various reasons this is a shorter that usual trip. Given the chance we’d be headed back to Holland, but that will have to be next year instead.
We had planned to sail to Dieppe for the kite festival but the weather looked a bit uncertain for a 12 hour crossing so we chickened out and got the Newhaven/Dieppe ferry.
It was a great weekend despite the Airbnb accommodation turning out to be non existent. Money refunded and an Airbnb apology voucher though 👍 and we ended up staying in a great place overlooking the harbour

So then it was Eastbourne to Brighton in 4 hours then on to Gosport the next day in 8 hours. All motor sailing unfortunately as there was barely any wind. Plenty of spring tide though.
And so here we are in the Solent!
After the unavoidable trip to Gunwharf Quay retail outlet to track down some ‘bargains’

and a long uphill walk to see Fort Nelson with the original Nelson’s Column

And Saddam’ Big Gun – well part of it!

It was on to Cowes where I’m taking full advantage of my New Bus Pass… travelling for hours all round the Island on the top deck front seat… complete with a packed lunch as I believe you are obliged to do once you are awarded said pass.
Yesterday was the Donkey Sanctuary

Today the Sweetcorn Fayre .. lots of BBQed sweetcorn, goats, a guinea pig competition, etc

And a woman riding a chicken…

I know how that works but every time I see it I’m impressed with how convincing it looks.
Perhaps she really was riding a chicken this time !!!
After being charged a different price for each of the three nights at Cowes Yacht Haven and finding the usual dirty toilets and contingent of loud inconsiderate racing Rugger Buggers, it’s off to Lymington tomorrow for some sailing action!!
Looks like you are having a great time 😊. Good to use the bus pass 🚌.
