Graveyard

After a good (and cheap) stay on the swinging mooring at Lake Yard and having caught up with family and friends in Poole it was off to Weymouth.

Lake Yard wasn’t without its moment of excitement when the free (👍) water taxi cut the corner to enter the narrow marina entrance to suddenly confront a large motor boat exiting at some speed! Full astern from the water taxi meant we missed by a few feet, but the motor boat made no effort to slow or change course! I suppose if you can afford a sun seeker style boat you just expect the proletariat to just scuttle out of the way. It did cause some alarm to fellow taxi passengers though..

Lunch with a friend was in yet another pub using the dreaded ordering app! The ex waiter came and stood about a foot from my shoulder explaining how to use the app! which we managed to get to work after quite some time! Then someone stood right next to us to deliver the food. Except we were delivered three main dishes! Despite their insistence that we’d ordered three on the app they eventually took the extra away mumbling that they’d credit my friends debit card. As he didn’t get a receipt who knows!! Of course all this sounds very grumpy old man and it’s clearly what we’ll have to put up with in the future.. and obviously people without iPhones shouldn’t really be allowed to eat out anyway, but it isn’t well thought through. I’ll walk out of places that only offer that system from now on and spend my Corona lunch money somewhere else!

In poole bay there are three mothballed cruise ships. Off Weymouth there are Seven including Queen Mary 2. Its quite sad to see them there like abandoned floating blocks of flats. All doomed to be eventually weighed in I suppose.

Naturally the predicted 10kn turned into 25kn as I approached Weymouth and the St Albans Head Overfalls were really quite bad. A small powerboat that passed me was alternately airborne and submerged for quite a bit of the time. No photo as I was too busy wrestling the tiller!

So into Chesil Cove for my first and certainly not last, state subsidised meal 👍 fish pie! Very nice! It tasted even sweeter knowing I was getting back a little of the tax I paid for all those years.

The Cove House Inn stopped serving alcohol at 9pm and when I asked why I was told it was for my own Covid safety! “People get drunk and do stupid things” though presumably only after 9pm Sherlock the waitress explained!
