A walk in the lovely South Downs I told you, with frequent stops at various Tea and Cake Rooms, I said..
And it’s true – that’s what we did, but there was a hidden agenda!!!!
Ever mindful of the End of Days, Kevin had brought his new Basha to test out.
After pumping ourselves up into a post-apocalyptic survival frenzy with Coffee, Bacon Sandwiches and Victoria Sponge, we found a quiet woodland area to set up our secret camp!

Whilst there is clearly work to be done in making it badger/zombie proof – also I was wearing the proper camouflage shirt and I’m not sure Kevin was really trying – we considered it a great success… and remember this work is vital as we may be the sole carriers of the human genome into a future Brave New Smouldering World!
Inexplicably Julia preferred the Tea Room !

She’ll thank us later when the sirens are sounding and the government tannoy says ‘stay indoors, work from home, wear your mask, we have everything under control’ !!
On our walk we passed a ‘Nostalgia’ event at Stanstead House
Here was one of the exhibits – and what an outstanding icon of American design and achievement

Who wouldn’t want to drive in that !!!!!
I can’t be 100% certain as she was wearing a mask, but I’m pretty sure it was Greta Thunberg at the wheel.. It’s so heartening to see young people embracing their cultural inheritance.
So the next day, to continued the theme, we set off to Hunt for Wild Food.
Expert hunter/gatherers that we are, we drifted on the tide from Langstone Harbour to Osbourne Bay and then back to Gosport.
And what a haul….

On sharing this great news, certain cynical ‘friends’ chose to point out that they didn’t realise some of these species were now resident in the Solent Waters.
My explanation about Global Warming unfortunately didn’t convince them
So sadly I have to come clean and admit that after 6 hours of feathers, spinners and a hook bearing the most indescribably smelly parts of a squid… that we actually caught nothing at all !!!!

Hopefully the Apocalypse won’t happen too soon.. in the meantime… there’s Aldi…

I’ve just finished lying awkwardly on the pontoon with a mirror in one hand and a breadknife lashed to a stick in the other, to clear the prop of a wedding-bouquet-sized clump of seaweed – so all good for Yarmouth tomorrow !!
Another intrepid adventure preparing for the afterworld. Well done boys. Glad you got back for the Aldi consignment of food and beverages 🤣🤣

I’m glad and encouraged that you’re honing your survival off-grid survival skills as I’m sure they will be needed in the not so distant future. As your hunter gatherer efforts are still “a work in progress” I will be looking at plant based options. Happy anchoring. XXX
